THE latest data from Public Health Wales shows that 7,001 people have died from Covid in the country since the start of the pandemic.

Eight new deaths have been recorded in the latest stats, though none of them occurred in the Cardiff and Vale area.

The Vale of Glamorgan has 37 new cases while neighbouring Cardiff has 97 new cases.

There are 808 new cases in Wales including residents outside Wales.

Both the Vale and Cardiff have a higher case rate than the average for Wales which is 24.4 cases per 100,000 people.

The Vale no longer has the highest case rate in the country, with 27.7 cases per 100,000 people over one day.

However this is nowhere near the highest rates in the country, such as Carmarthenshire (45) and Blaenau Gwent (40.1).

Cardiff has a case rate of 26.4 cases per 100,000 people.

All data is correct as of March 1.
