THE Vale of Glamorgan has the third highest amount of new Covid cases in Wales, according to Public Health Wales.

The Vale has recorded 108 new cases, with only neighbouring Cardiff (245) and Rhondda Cynon Taf (141) having more new cases.

Wales has 1,877 new cases in total including residents outside Wales.

As expected, the case rate in the Vale is high with there being 80.8 cases per 100,000 people.

This is again the third highest rate in Wales, with Blaenau Gwent (114.5) and Anglesey (89.9) having higher case rates.

Cardiff has a rate of 66.8 cases per 100,000 people, which in itself is higher than the average rate for Wales (57.8).

Public Health Wales have recorded 15 more deaths for the whole of Wales, meaning 7,090 people have died over the course of the pandemic.

None of the new deaths occurred in the Cardiff and Vale area.
