A GROUP of rowers in Penarth have raised more than £3,000 for the Red Cross Ukrainian Appeal fund.

The group, which mainly consists of people over 50 years old, rowed for one hour on eight rowing machines on Wednesday, March 16.

People were invited to spend £1 to guess how many metres the group would row collectively to win a bottle of champagne and £25.

The group rowed 102,584 metres in the hour, and Steph Price from Penarth guessed within 16 metres of the final total.

Despite the event being announced with short notice, the group managed to raise £3,011.

An 'Irish night' at Penarth Yacht Club was also held on Saturday, March 19, which added to the total raised.
