THE Vale of Glamorgan Council has notified traders on Penarth Esplanade that extra seating on the road will have to be removed by June.

The extra seating was approved during the Covid-19 pandemic so customers could sit outside, but businesses have now been informed that the licence will expire on June 30.

The seats were set up in an area usually used for car parking - meaning 13 out of 42 parking spaces were unavailable.

Those who struggle to find parking in the town are likely to welcome the move - but some businesses had welcomed the outdoor seating, which will no longer be available from the end of June - the height of the summer tourist season.

A Vale of Glamorgan Council spokesman said: ""Licenses to place chairs and tables on the public highway were put in place as a temporary measure to support businesses during the pandemic.

"These will now end on 30 June 2022."
