A PENARTH school has shown solidarity with Ukraine, with pupils doing what they can to help refugees.
Children at Ysgol Pen-y-Garth on Sully Road have been raising funds for Ukrainians who have been forced to flee their homes due to the ongoing conflict.
Year Four pupils at the school suggested many fundraising ideas and settled on three:
- Taking part in a day-long cyclathon;
- Making and selling clay candles;
- Holding a 'how many sweets are in the jar?' competition.
So far the Year Four pupils have raised more than £750, which will be donated to UNICEF - a charity which works to help protect children in danger, including those impacted by the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Year four teacher, Delyth Vaughan, said: "The school has been overwhelmed by the generosity of the Pen-y-Garth community and they’re extremely proud of their pupils.
"However, it is only just the beginning – other year groups are now planning their own fundraising ideas."
This includes Year Six who will sell blue and yellow ribbons, Year Five who took part in a sponsored walk, and Year Three who took part in a jumpathon.
