PLANNING your big day in the great outdoors?

A temporary move to allow outdoor weddings and civil partnerships at licensed venues in Wales and England – due to the Covid pandemic – has now been made permanent.

Registration service manager and superintendent registrar, Rachel Protheroe, said:

“The Vale has some fantastic outdoor spaces and provides unique settings to hold these events, from historic buildings, gardens and even right by the seafront.”

Here are some Penarth locations in which people can celebrate their special day

Cosmeston

Cosmeston Medieval Village, on the outskirts of Penarth, is a unique setting to tie the knot.

Based in the Green Flag awarded Cosmeston Lakes Country Park this can cater for up to 120 people for a wedding or civil ceremony.

People can celebrate in a dedicated meadow, or in the rose and patio gardens. Alternatively, people can mark the occasion in the tithe barne or other historical buildings within this space.

Venue hire includes limited free parking.

Llandough Castle Gardens

People can tie the knot at Llandough Castle Gardens which have been designed to complement the 14th century manor and surrounding woodland.

This setting is for more intimate ceremonies with up to 30 guests allowed at weddings and civil partnerships in the gardens or in the orangery.

There is a potager (vegetable garden) on site which leads to a croquet lawn, surrounded by other lawns and woodland.

The venue offers bespoke wedding services catered to individual’s wants for the big day.

Options for indoor ceremonies in Penarth include:

  • Paget Rooms;
  • Penarth Masonic Hall;
  • Penarth Pavilion;
  • Holm House;
  • West House;
  • The Turner House.

Vale of Glamorgan Council has unveiled an online ‘ceremony portal’ which allows people to register, personalise and preview the ceremony online.
