PENARTH Operatic and Dramatic Society will be performing a rendition of The Full Monty - the Broadway Musical later this month.

The performance will be the first musical performed by the group in three years.

It will be staged at the Paget Rooms in Penarth from Wednesday, May 18, to Saturday, May 21.

The musical was originally due to be performed in 2020, but the Covid pandemic meant that rehearsals could not be resumed until January this year.

Penarth Operatic and Dramatic Society (PODS) recently made their return to the Paget Rooms with Arthur Conan Doyle mystery The Hound of the Baskervilles.

The Full Monty - the Broadway Musical is an adaptation of the film of the same name which follows a group of unemployed steelworkers who decide to make money by becoming strippers.

The group are exposed both physically and emotionally throughout the course of the story and must come together to support one another.

Renowned as an upbeat spectacle, the comedy will feature plenty of humour and catchy musical numbers.

PODS president Mary Gardner plays Jeanette Burmeister in the musical, who is an eccentric figure who accompanies the men on the piano.

Ms Gardner said: "I'm delighted to be playing the part of Jeanette, the pianist who plays for the guys as they rehearse their dance for the Full Monty strip - aren't I the lucky one!

"Also, as PODS president and with 50 years of shows under my belt, I think I can say with all honesty that the cast is full of first-class talent and that The Full Monty is not a show to be missed."

Each show begins at 7.30pm at the Paget Rooms and tickets cost £14.
