PENARTH Operatic and Dramatic Society will be performing an exclusive play later this year.

The amateur theatre group has obtained the rights to perform the non-professional national premiere of The Good Life.

The adaptation of the legendary BBC sitcom toured professionally last year and starred Rufus Sewell as Tom Good.

PODS publicity officer Peter Knowles said: "Although some TV sitcoms from this period have become very dated this is not the case with The Good Life.

"If anything, the subjects of the class system and achieving a sustainable lifestyle are even more current now than they were in the 1970’s.

"We’re thrilled that PODS has been given the incredible opportunity to perform the non-professional national premiere of The Good Life.

"It’s going to be amazing seeing the characters originally played by Richard Briers, Felicity Kendall, Penelope Keith and Paul Eddington brought to life on stage."

The play focuses on Tom Good navigating a mid-life crisis and his attempt with wife Barbara to become entirely self sufficient in upper middleclass Surbiton.

Like in the sitcom, this horrifies neighbours Margot and Jerry Leadbetter.

The play will be performed at the Paget Rooms from October 12 until October 15 at 7.30pm.
