A FOOTBALL-MAD Penarth woman has celebrated her 101st birthday.

Nina Adey lives at MHA Morel Court in Raisdale Rd, and celebrated her amazing landmark on Friday, June 17, with a party in her honour.

Family and friends paid a visit and enjoyed the birthday decorations and of course, the cake.

Ms Adey said: "It was really nice to spend the day with my family and I really enjoyed it.

"The secret to a long life for me is supporting my favourite football club, Wolverhampton Wanderers and having a glass of bitter on the odd occasion.

"I do try and go to watch Wolves with my grandson whenever they are playing close by and it's something we both really enjoy.

"I like sitting in the garden when my family comes to visit me and again I was very happy with the birthday party that was organised for me."

Cllr Laura Rochefort, mayor of Penarth, was invited to the celebrations and presented Ms Adey with flowers.

June Mansell, community coordinator said: "Nina loved her special day and was tired the following day but thoroughly enjoyed it.

"She loves her favourite football team and even has her Zimmer frame in the same colour as their kit.

"She went for lunch with her family and spent the evening with us at Morel Court so it was a long day, but she really enjoyed it and it was nice to see her having a good time."
