RNLI volunteers rescued three people after a boat experienced engine failure near Sully Island.
Crews were alerted at 11.05pm on Saturday, August 6, that a fishing vessel was in trouble three quarters of a mile south of Sully Island.
The Atlantic 85 lifeboat was launched to give assistance to the 31-foot boat.
The lifeboat towed the stranded boat back to Cardiff Bay so that it could be repaired.
Crews then washed and refuelled the Atlantic 85 lifeboat and it was back in service by 2.15am on Sunday, August 7.
What is the Atlantic 85 lifeboat?
The Atlantic 85 lifeboat is one of two classes of boat that RNLI Penarth use, the other being the inflatable inshore D-Class lifeboat.
The Atlantic 85 is also inflatable, but is bigger and more powerful than the D-Class.
Heralded as one of the fastest ships in the RNLI fleet, the Atlantic 85 is around 8.5 metres in length.
Introduced in 2005, the lifeboat takes its name from the Atlantic College in Llantwit Major as rigid inflatable boats were first developed.
