STUDENTS at a Penarth school are celebrating A-level results after a “difficult and disrupted period” during lockdown.

St Cyres School in Penarth is among many Welsh schools celebrating results day today – indicators show that results have improved since 2019 when examinations were last sat.

More than three quarters (84 per cent) of St Cyres School’s year 13 students have been accepted into their first-choice university, while 89 per cent have accepted university places.

This includes two students who have accepted offers to study at Oxford University.

Headteacher, Peter Lewis, said:

“Students should be congratulated on the way that they approached their studies over what has been a difficult and disrupted period.

“They have worked incredibly hard and engaged with their teachers who have supported them every step of the way.

“To return such amazing results is a credit to the students themselves, and to the support they have had at St Cyres School.”

He added that Year 12 students have also achieved “fantastic results” adding: “In many indicators Year 12 pupils have exceeded the very high results of even 2021 which were based on centre determined grades.

“Again, these results reflect the hard work and dedication of our students and teachers and such strong results will be a great foundation for these students to move on to their A-levels next year.”
