A NUMBER of Penarth restaurants have been nominated for a prestigious restaurant award.

In total, six Penarth restaurants have made the shortlist in differing categories for the 2022 Welsh Restaurant Awards.

Each restaurant will be competing in different categories, so residents can support all with a clear conscience.

Starting at the top, Penarth Yacht Club is on the shortlist for Welsh Restaurant of the Year.

The business posted the news on Facebook, saying that it is "great news" and that the team are "over the moon".

Pickford's Galley & Bar with Rooms are up for the Best of South Wales category.

Another Esplanade business is nominated for an award, with Romeo's by the Sea listed in the Italian Restaurant of the Year category.

Indeed the restaurant is so good that it has been listed in that category twice.

Keyif Restaurant, on Glebe Street, has been shortlisted for Turkish Restaurant of the Year.

The Clay Pit on Plassey Street is the place to go in Penarth for Bangladeshi food.

This has been recognised by the Welsh Restaurant Awards and the Clay Pit has made the shortlist for Bangladeshi Restaurant of the Year.

The Michelin Star restaurant in the Royal Buildings on Stanwell Road has been shortlisted for Romantic Restaurant of the Year.

A spokesperson for The Welsh Restaurant Awards said: "These awards aim to recognise  the food experience as well as service excellence, ambience, quality and variety of choices that the restaurants in Wales have to offer.

“These finalists represent the gold standard, whose lively atmosphere and fantastic skill have made them stand out among the rest.

“We would like to wish all the finalists the best of luck and we are looking forward to welcoming all of our guests and celebrating the winners with them."

A black tie event will take place in Cardiff this October.
