THE consultation period of the Esplanade is moving ahead after gathering initial responses.

After the consultation was announced in June, the Vale of Glamorgan Council began asking people for their views on the future of the Esplanade in August.

Leader of the council Lis Burnett later clarified what the consultation is aiming to achieve.

The council asked for the public's input via an ideas board at Penarth Pavilion and online.

Now the council is looking for views around specific ideas that have been raised in the initial canvassing period.

Specifics have not been released, but the themes are centred around transport, public realm improvements and hospitality.

A new survey addressing this will be released on the council website and in-person events are being planned.

Cllr Burnett said: "There has already been significant improvement work carried out around the Esplanade, with the council investing heavily in the Pier Pavilion in particular.

"We are aware of how important this location is to residents and visitors to Penarth, which is why we have launched such a comprehensive engagement exercise to properly understand those views.

"People have shared their feelings on a broad range of matters. These have been reviewed and used to shape this new survey.

"That is the next stage of the engagement process as we work to understand what people want from this location.

"Ultimately, the information gathered will help influence how this area looks and feels in future."
