HUNDREDS of families showed up at Penarth Pier to watch what must have been one of the most spectacular settings to celebrate the King’s coronation.

On Saturday evening, May 6, Penarth Town Council put on a firework display on the pier which looked simply stunning.

The event was unticketed and hundreds of people lined The Esplanade, cameras at the ready, in awe as the fireworks flickered and shone against the calm waters of the Bristol Channel.

Before the event, mayor of the town, Councillor Laura Rochefort, said she was pleased to once again see fireworks on the iconic pier.

 “I’m delighted that fireworks are returning to our iconic pier and particularly pleased that we can provide a free activity for families on this historic bank holiday weekend.”

Penarth Youth Action, which did exceptional work helping collect donations for the mayor’s charity Marie Curie, said they were excited by the event.

“We’re very excited to be a part of this national event which connects so many communities across the country”.

The coronation event was organised by Penarth Town Council with the aid of Penarth Youth Action and funded with an award from the National Lottery Community Fund.
