A PENARTH pub and one of the town’s most iconic live music venues is back in business!

At the beginning of May we reported the sad news that The Albion, on the corner of Glebe Street and Salop Street, had shut its doors after former landlord Mark Pearson said he was unable to negotiate a satisfactory deal with pub owners Marstons to keep it going.

It sounded like the death knell of the pub, and a chilling silence fell on the area, with no live music planned for the future.

But that’s all changed now under the Albion’s new manager Nick Walsh.

Mr Walsh, who owns Marston’s other venue, the King's Head, in Llantwit Major, has taken over the Albion and he’s made some changes.

New feel Albion pub in Penarth, with exciting developments coming

The Albion is back up and running, in fact it’s running longer, with the pub now open seven days a week.

There’s also been a re-gig inside, with tables and chairs moved around to give it a more homely feel.

One thing that hasn’t changed is the live music which is still very much alive on Friday and Saturday evenings.

There’s also some very exciting developments that new landlord Mr Walsh is looking at introducing.

“We want to open a restaurant in a month’s time that will serve pub grub, basket meals and Sunday lunch,” explained Mr Welsh.

“We’re also introducing an open mic session every Tuesday, and we want to do some jazz on a Sunday evening.

“We’re open again and everyone is welcome.”

Mr Walsh said the restaurant is aiming to be open towards the end of July, while the open mic session on a Tuesday is looking to start either the second or third week of July.

The new opening times for the Albion are: 11am to 11pm Sunday to Thursday, and 11am to midnight Friday and Saturday.
