THERE was flash flooding in Penarth today and it caused disruption on the roads.
It’s the worst place it could happen, however it’s also the natural place for it to occur, with even “perfect Penarth” unable to defy the laws of gravity after a heavy downpour this afternoon left a large body of water at the lowest point on Windsor Road, just before the turn off for Cogan Station.

Fed up resident Wendy, whose house sits at this low point on Windsor Road, stood outside her front door, like she’s done countless times, watching the water build.
Thankfully, Wendy now has watertight front gates installed to her property which stops the water getting in, however she says unless the drains are manually cleared, the water will keep building.

There were tailbacks right up to the crossing at Courts restaurant and the roundabout that splits onto Plassey Street as motorists had to slow right down to make their way through the water.
The incident happened at around 2pm when a huge downpour of rain suddenly hit Penarth.
Police were on the scene, clearing drains in order for the water to drain away.
But Wendy said clearing the drains at this point in the road won't stop here, and it is an evening routine, particularly through autumn and winter, clearing the leaves in order for the rainwater to clear.
She wants to see the council do more to make the area safer and better protected from flash flooding, which could include removing the overhanging trees.
