A PENARTH schoolgirl who struggled with getting her haircut bravely overcame her fears as she donated ten inches of her hair to charity.

Nova Utting, eight has never had her hair cut more than an inch – but on Friday afternoon at the Penarth Labour Club she faced her fear for the Little Princess's trust.

Nova bravely went ahead with the haircut; she told the Penarth Times that she was happy to have it done.

She said: “I was nervous and excited, but I am happy I went through with it. I am glad that other children will have my hair.”

More than 50 friends and family packed out the lounge at the Penarth Labour Club in support of Nova.

The event took place between midday and 2pm, with the Labour Club holding the event for free.

The club donated £190, along with a further £200 from the Labour Club's committee pounds for the charity.

Nova’s ten inches of hair will be donated to the Little Princess Trust, which specialises in making wigs for children and young people up to 24 who have lost their hair due to cancer.

Along with donations from the Penarth Labour Club and today’s event, the family has exceeded their target of £650, as £680 has been donated to the cause through their GoFundMe page.

Mum Lucy said: “I didn’t think she was going to go through with it, I thought she was going to pull out at the last minute.

“I am so proud of her, and it has been a fantastic turnout of people to support Nova as she had her haircut.”

To raise further money for the Little Princess Trust, the event had a raffle, cupcakes, a nail bar, a slush puppy machine, and children could put make-up on some of the guests.

Nova’s grandfather Micky Farrall inspired Nova to donate her hair after chatting to her about a cancer advert and the Little Princess Trust.

He said: “I suggested it after she went on about her hair, and I told her why don’t you cut your hair for the young kids who haven’t got any hair and she went for that and it's brilliant.

“She was calm about it, and I am I really proud of her for going through with it.”
