THOUSANDS of runners are due to hit the streets of Cardiff this weekend, with bus routes to Barry and Penarth diverted due to road closures.

The Cardiff 10K returns on Sunday, September 3 and will take begin at 10am, in King Edward VII Avenue in the civic centre.

Buses will divert and stop at different city terminals between 9am and to 12.45pm, due to road closures at North Road, Kingsway, Castle Street, Westgate Street, Wood Street, Fitzhamon Embankment and Cathedral Road.

Cardiff Bus routes to Barry and Penarth will start and end from Taff Mead Embankment while inbound busses into Cardiff will run a normal route.

Here are the services that are affected.

Routes, 92 Cardiff to Penarth, 94 Cardiff to Barry via Sully and 95 Cardiff to Barry via Dinas Powys

Between 9am and 11.20am, Route 92 from Cardiff to Penarth, Route 94 to Barry via Sully, and Route 95 from Cardiff to Barry via Dinas Powys will follow a different path. Buses will start and end at Taff's Mead Embankment (stop two).

Inbound buses will take the usual route to Sloper Road/City Gardens, then travel along Sloper Road and Ninian Park Road to Claire Road.

The inbound stops on Virgil Street, Cornwall Street, and Clare Road will not be available. Additionally, the outbound stops on Tudor Street and Wood Street will not be served.

Route 96 Cardiff to Barry via Wenvoe

Between 9am and 12.24pm, Route 96 from Cardiff to Barry via Wenvoe will start and end from Taff’s Mead Embankment (stop two).

Stops at Dispenser Street, Fitzhamon Embankment, Wood Street, Westgate Street, Cardiff Bridge and St. David's Hospital will not be served due to road closures in those areas.
