A YACHT had to be rescued after it ran aground.

The rescue came after the RNLI issued advice to the public on very large tides in the area on Friday, September 1, and the weekend.

Crews from Penarth were called at 1:42 p.m. after the 10m Yacht had run aground nine miles east of Penarth on the Middle Grounds.

The person on board was advised to put out his anchor and wait for the incoming tide while the crew ensured the skipper was safe.

Last weekend saw one of the highest times of the year, with the RNLI issuing the following advice to stay safe, know the tides, swim on a lifeguarded beach, keep an eye on children and don’t swim alone.

The incident came a week after the Penarth Crew assisted the Barry Dock lifeboat in rescuing another yacht after five people became stuck. The boat was touching the ground under shallow water on Saturday, August 26.

The RNLI said there were very large tides along the coast this past weekend and it always urges the public to be aware: "If you see someone in trouble along the coast call 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
