CREWS from the RNLI Penarth lifeboat station rescued two people trapped on the causeway near Sully Island.

The RNLI were out on a training exercise on Tuesday, September 5 when they saw two people attempting to walk the causeway and became trapped by the fast-incoming tide.

The volunteer crew at the scene escorted the two people back to safety before warning them about the power of the tide in the area.

After seven days of warm weather experienced across the Vale of Glamorgan beaches have been packed with sun lovers.

An RNLI spokesperson said: “In this perfectly barmy weather it is fabulous to be at the beach.

“Do this safely by making yourself familiar with any dangers in the area, swim between flags and call 999 and ask for the Coastguard in case of emergency or there is someone that looks to be in trouble.”

This comes after the RNLI urged people to stay safe in the water following reduced lifeguard services at Whitmore Bay.
