A new multi-use games area has opened at a recreation ground in Penarth this week following a £100,000 upgrade.
The games area at Cwrt-Y-Vil on St Mark's Road was re-opened on Wednesday, October 4, with a successful launch party.
Members of the community, the leader of the council, Lis Burnett, cabinet members, and Penarth’s Youth Action group were all present to celebrate the redevelopment.
Cllr Burnett said: “This a wonderful celebration that has brought together the local community to enjoy and engage with the new facility.
“The new multi-use games area is situated in a busy residential area and will benefit lots of people. We hope this facility will encourage more young people to participate in activities.

“We have made huge improvements to sports infrastructure across the Vale, and we hope these facilities will benefit everyone.”
Penarth Youth Action Group provided football and basketball taster sessions and shared hot chocolate and marshmallow smores with members of the public.
The site was identified by PYA as one they would like to see enhanced following a consultation the group undertook and provided to the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
Tionna Ross, a member of Penarth Youth Action, said: “We would like to thank you everyone coming to the event.
“We really appreciated the support of PYA to start this MUGA project and the support of others to help get it done.
“We are pleased this is finally open so the community can come together and enjoy spending time over sports.”
The estimated cost of the redevelopment project is £100,000, which includes technical fees.
This project is part of a larger program aimed at upgrading play facilities throughout the Vale, wherever funding is available.
Similar work has recently been completed at St David's Play Area, Penarth, Windmill Lane in Llantwit Major, Belle Vue Play Area, Penarth, Clos Peiriant in Barry, and Central Park Play Area also in Barry.
