A MAN has opened a barbecue business from his home in Penarth - and has already sold out of food for next month.
Matt O'Brien, a musician from Penarth, has opened his own BBQ Chop Shop remotely, specialising in barbequed food from around the world.
Mr O’Brien told the Penarth Times that he’s had amazing reactions from locals - and has already sold out for the whole of December.
He said: “I have had an amazing reaction from the public and sold out for December in three days. My wife and I are so proud and excited to start off so strong.
“We hope our customers enjoy the food and word can get around so we can continue to do this.”
The 36-year-old has travelled all over the world as a musician and was inspired to start his own food business after visiting America.
After visiting a place called Hometown Barbeque in Brooklyn, New York, he decided to set up his own version from his home in Penarth.
He added: “Brooklyn in New York is my favourite place, they have an amazing venue called Hometown Barbeque, it's an amazing venue with bands playing and they have incredible scenery.
“I said to my wife when I returned that I want to work in a place like that. It's my favourite place in the world.
“I want to create somewhere with a rustic Route 66 theme, where people can eat, drink and listen to music.”
The food he is selling from his home is barbecue-pulled pork/chicken/beef, pork/beef ribs, pit beans, mac and cheese, smoked greens, and cornbread along with homemade sauces and seasoning which will change monthly.
He added: “America is the home of barbecue, but I do Korean barbecue ribs and Mexican pulled pork, I like to set up different cultures and flavours and treat them like barbecue.
“Each month we will offer different puddings and sides plus the barbecue staples twice a month.”
The business will be takeaway only and will be opening one Saturday a month with the hope of having seating available in the future.
