CREWS from Penarth RNLI and Barry were called to reports of a swimmer at the pier this morning, Friday, January 12.

Penarth lifeboats and crews from Barry Dock along with a rescue helicopter and coastguard rescue teams were called to concerns of a swimmer from the end of Penarth Pier.

Milford Haven Coastguard Coordination Centre requested both Penarth lifeboats to immediately search the area.

A spokesperson for RNLI Penarth said: “After a short while South Wales Police after a short while confirmed that a swimmer matching the description had left the water.

“Thank you to the members of the public who reported concerns and the local swimmers who helped with the confirmation that a person had left the water.

“All search and rescue assets were then stood down and returned to their bases. Please remember if you see someone who you think is in difficultly to call 999 and ask for the coastguard.”

South Wales Police were approached for comment.
