WELSH Water has warned that discoloured water is affecting households in Penarth.

Houses on the town's Beach Road, Park Road, Bridgeman Road and the Esplanade are particularly affected.

The incident is said to be repaired by 5pm this evening, January 23.

Welsh Water advise if you are suffering brown water coming through your taps, run them to flush the system clean.

The company say it shouldn't take too long to flush the system, however it can in some cases take up to 45 minutes.

Advice is not to wash clothes if your water is currently running discoloured.

On the incident, Welsh Water said: "We are aware customers are affected by discoloured water.

"Our advice is to run your cold kitchen tap if you are affected. This will help clear the supply.

It usually clears fairly quickly, but it may take around 45 minutes of running the tap before it clears.

"Avoid washing clothes until the water is clear.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused."
