A SPECIAL guest recently sampled the fine food of one of Penarth’s Michelin-rated restaurants.

All-seeing and all-knowing judge of Great British Menu, Marcus Wareing was in town dining at Home restaurant on Stanwell Road.

Mr Wareing is seen in a photo with owner of Home, James Sommerin.

Home posted the picture on their Instagram page on February 3 with the message: “What an absolute pleasure to have an icon of the industry in for dinner this evening.”

Mr Wareing is known for his tough-talking and acute attention to detail when putting budding chefs through the most gruelling on TV cookery challenges – the industry-insiders’ competition - MasterChef: The Professionals.

The show sees chefs from all across the country compete for the coveted MasterChef trophy presented by Gregg Wallace and John Torode, with Wearing and Monica Galetti as fellow judges.

And of course there is the celebrity version of MasterChef which, in its most recent series, saw the first Welsh winner - and surely the future first minister of Wales - Wynne Evans.

It seems that if Home was put under the intense test of Mr Wareing, well they passed, with Home's message on Instagram finishing by saying: “Marcus Wareing, great to see you and so pleased you enjoyed your experience at Home, Penarth.”

Did you know, Home does cookery lessons…

You can learn how to cook like a Michelin-starred chef with Home’s Sunday cookery demos.

Home still has places available on July 14 and September 15.

Courses come in at £115 per person which includes an hour's demonstration by James and daughter Georgia.

Recently opened Penarth wine bar Touring Club was entered as one of 20 eateries into Michelin’s ‘Bib Gourmand’ category.

Not quite a full Michelin star, the ‘Bib Gourmand’ celebrates eateries offering Michelin-style food at more affordable prices.

Run by celebrity chef Bryn Williams and team, Touring Club is turning its attention to its simple yet quality food offerings, serving side orders to complement its selection of fine wines and now offering a breakfast menu.
