A NEW drinking fountain has been installed for Penarth by the Vale of Glamorgan council to help reduce the use of disposable bottles.
The new drinking fountain was installed opposite the RNLI lifeboat station on Cliff Hill. It backs onto the new showers, using the same water supply.
The fountain was funded by the Council's Annual Coastal Infrastructure Capital Budget, earmarked for maintaining and enhancing the county’s coastal resorts.
Cllr Mark Wilson, cabinet member for neighbourhood and building services said: “Penarth town and coastal resort is a popular destination for swimming groups and visitors throughout the year.
“The new showers on Penarth Beach have proven very popular, so I’m delighted to offer another facility to enhance the experience of those who live and visit the town."
Vale of Glamorgan council installed the new fountain in line with their Project Zero objectives, the free-bottle filling station aims to reduce the use of disposable plastic bottles, offering an environmentally friendly and economically friendly alternative to purchasing bottled water.
He added: “I hope the new water fountain will prove just as popular and reduce the use of single-use plastic, protecting our wonderful coastline.”
