A PENARTH community centre is hosting a special event for Ty Hafan patients at its cinema next month.

The Lower Penarth Community Centre in Brockhill Way will be hosting a private screening event on Sunday, March 17.

The community centre cinema was launched on Saturday, February 10, and has been well received by locals in Penarth with Ty Hafan interested in a private screening for their patients.

Trustees from the Lower Penarth Community Association announced the news after they were contacted by the family support team at Ty Hafan.

Due to the difficulties of attending mainstream cinemas, the committee agreed to host a private screening for patients of the children's hospice.

Treasurer of the Lower Penarth Community Association Johnathan Cole said: “We were contacted by a family support team at Ty Hafan, and they explained that their patients had difficulty in visiting mainstream cinemas.

“They asked if we would be interested in staging a private screening for them, and that they would be prepared to cover our costs in staging the event, so we agreed to help."

Mr Cole told the Penarth Times that Ken Sievewright managing director of K.C.S Transport, a local trucking company in Barry is sponsoring the event.

He added: “We contacted Ken Sievewright, managing director at K.C.S Transport, who happily agreed to sponsor the event and because of his generous donation we have been able to expand on what was requested.”

The event will take place in the Community Hall at 2pm, town mayor Melissa Rabiotti will open the event with a mystery celebrity hosting the afternoon and children’s entertainer Simon Sparkles performing magic.

The movie that will be shown is the sing-along version of The Greatest Showman. Guests at the event will be provided with a selection of sweets from the UmpaLumpa sweet shop on Windsor Road.
