Barry Tesco shoppers have a chance to win a share of £500k for local children’s groups.

On March 16, Tesco’s ‘Stronger Starts’ campaign offers customers a golden opportunity between 12 noon and 1pm.

Customers in 100 selected stores can draw a golden version of Tesco's blue voting token from a lucky dip, and those who unearth a golden token can decide which local school or children's project will get a £5,000 Golden Grant.

The groups in Barry vying for the Golden Grants include The Intersensory Club, Jenner Park Primary School, and Ysgol Gymraeg Gwaun y Nant.

Funds go towards healthy food or equipment to aid children's development.

Claire De Silva, head of communities for Tesco, said: "Right now, £5,000 can make a massive difference to a school or community project and help them give children a stronger start in life.

"Our Stronger Starts campaign has already funded so many groups and schools right across the UK and we can’t wait to see what these Golden Tokens can do in more communities across the country."

The scheme forms part of the £5m Tesco Stronger Starts programme in partnership with Groundwork UK.

Since 2016, Tesco has contributed £112,121 to Barry & District residents and groups.
