A FITNESS trainer in Penarth is also an actor, currently appearing in BBC’s EastEnders.

Liam Hatch, who works as a personal trainer at the popular Anytime Fitness on Windsor Road, is also playing “bully” Logan in the iconic British TV drama.

Mr Hatch began filming in November 2023 after landing a role on the show.

He plays Walford High student Logan, who is making fellow character Denzel Danes’ life a misery.

Mr Hatch says the storyline lends itself to raising awareness about bullying, steroid use, and the affects social media has on young people.

On joining the series, Mr Hatch, who appeared on the show in January, said he was welcomed with open arms and the cast is like one big family.

One of the highlights of filming for Mr Hatch was when Phil Mitchell said his name, describing it as a “wow” moment.

On his acting career, Mr Hatch, 27, said: “I left school and studied acting at my local college in Pontypridd.

“In 2016 I got myself an agent after doing work on the stage in the West End. I’ve appeared in the likes of Doctor Who, there’s a few other projects in the pipeline and EastEnders is on-going.”

EastEnders actor fighting to keep Anytime Fitness Penarth from becoming wine merchant Majestic

Mr Hatch has appeared in the likes of Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Paramount TV’s The Burning Girls.

His acting role models include Matthew McConaughey and Jim Carrey.

But while having extensive acting experience, Mr Hatch is also a fully qualified personal trainer.

He was part of the team drawn into the dispute when Anytime Fitness was at threat of being closed and replaced by alcohol merchants Majestic Wine.

Now, after the change of use application submitted by landlords was rejected by Vale Council planning officers, it looks as if the gym will remain open.

On this issue, Mr Hatch said: “Big shout out to the community. They want us here and I do not think an alcohol trader would have helped Penarth like we do.”

On the future, Mr Hatch juggles a couple of ambitions.

“The goal? To constantly be on people’s screens, act on the stage and hopefully run my own gym business.”

A man with a plan.
