A musician will be performing in Pontardawe.

Singer-songwriter Sarah McQuaid is due to entertain at the Pontardawe Arts Centre on Thursday, May 23, as a part of her tour promoting her latest album "The St Buryan Sessions."

Born in Spain, raised in Chicago and a former member of The Chicago Children’s Choir, McQuaid has established a strong presence in the music scene since relocating to Cornwall in 2007.

Sarah McQuaid said: "I owe Zoë a massive debt of gratitude for getting me into songwriting in a serious way.

"Prior to that I’d thought of myself basically as a folksinger who happened to write an occasional song, but through working with Zoë I not only learned a hell of a lot about the craft of songwriting, but also just the fact of someone of her calibre wanting to co-write with me was what finally gave me the confidence to start focusing on my own original material."

This partnership culminated in an album under the band name 'Mama', released in 2008.

One crucial element of her successful career is Martin Stansbury, producer, engineer, and former bandmate of Zoë’s, who has worked with McQuaid on her tours worldwide since 2009.

Most recently, Stansbury produced and engineered McQuaid’s sixth solo album, recorded live during the lockdown.

The "St Buryan Sessions" has been well received since its release last October, featuring on "Best of 2021" lists on three continents.

Sarah McQuaid will be at Pontardawe Arts Centre, Pontardawe on Thursday, May 23, doors at 7pm. Tickets cost £16.50 and are available from Pontardawe Arts Centre.
