A Penarth businessman is supporting young hockey players at a national hockey festival.
Entrepreneur, Mike Newton, of Lapider Chartered Surveyors, has stepped up to sponsor South Wales Dragons Under 13 Boys’ Hockey Team.
The squad, formed from schoolboys from across south Wales who were picked through trials held in April, will be vying for victory at the UK National Hockey Festival in Nottingham, at the end of June 2024.
Penarth has had a proud history of having players selected and this year will have three players on the team; Elis Redwood of Ysgol Bro Morgannwg, and Dominic Ryan and William Halstead, both of Stanwell School.
Further cementing the area's influence, the coaching team includes 17-year-old Nia Llewellyn, also an Ysgol Bro Morgannwg student.
Nia, known for coaching the Under 12s at Penarth Hockey Club for the past 3 years, plays a crucial role for the second year running.
