A LOCAL charity and end-of-life group is looking for more volunteers to help raise funds for people living with terminal illness and those close to them.
The Penarth and Barry Marie Curie Fundraising Group is asking new members to come forward to help the local community by raising awareness and also raising funds.
Hannah Warner-Holt, Marie Curie community fundraiser for Cardiff, The Vale and Bridgend, said: “Our volunteers tell us how much satisfaction they get from giving even a small amount of time but helping make a huge difference in their local community.
“I’d urge anyone interested in hearing more to get in touch.
“With the continued support from the people of Penarth and Barry we can help more people have the best possible end of life, wherever they are and whatever their illness.”
The local group also takes part in national fundraising campaigns for Marie Curie, such as the ‘Great Daffodil Appeal’ and other annual collections.
The Penarth and Barry Fundraising Group has raised £260,000 in the 20 years since it was formed.
Over the last 20 years, the 17 fundraising groups established in Wales have come together to raise £3.5 Million to support the charity’s vital work with end-of-life hospice care.
Money raised for Marie Curie by the Penarth and Barry group helps fund Marie Curie nurses and healthcare professionals, who provide expert hospice care to people in the comfort of their own home in the Vale of Glamorgan and/or at its hospice in Penarth, as well as supporting those close to them.
Marie Curie provides rapid response hospice care at home, and aims to give companions the emotional and practical support they want: at home, in hospital or over the phone.
