A mural celebrating Penarth’s seaside charm now welcomes visitors at a high street optician.
The artwork, created by sixth form students from Stanwell School, is on display at Specsavers in Penarth and highlights the town’s identity as the 'Garden by the Sea.'
The mural was painted by four Year 12 and 13 students, aged 16 to 18, over several weeks.
It was commissioned as part of a collaboration between Stanwell School’s art department and the opticians.
The team included students Katie Halligan, Annie Scott-Lawson, Chelsea McCabe, and Maude Woodhall, who were chosen for the project through the school’s art department.
Rhian Lewis, head of art and design at Stanwell School, said: "This project gave our students a valuable opportunity to respond to a live brief and apply their skills in a meaningful way.
"It was fantastic to see them working together creatively and producing something they can be proud of in their community."
The mural features Penarth Pier, Windsor Gardens, the sea, and the town’s iconic Victorian clock.
It is displayed at the entrance to Specsavers’ regional training room, which hosts meetings and training for staff across the Specsavers network in Wales.
Katie said: "We really enjoyed working on this mural and learning how to take an idea from initial concept through to a finished piece.
"It’s amazing to see it in place and to know it’ll be part of the store for years to come."
Specsavers Penarth is locally owned and supports community and school partnerships as part of its ongoing commitment to the area.
Andrew Moss, ophthalmic director at Specsavers Penarth, said: "We were thrilled to work with the talented students at Stanwell to bring this project to life.
"Their work has completely transformed the space and brought a unique, local touch to an important area of the store.
"The mural is a fantastic showcase of teamwork and imagination, and we look forward to colleagues from across the region seeing it for years to come."
