Just under three years ago, my darling daughter, Joanne Cooley, née Weale, died tragically young after failed major surgery.
We, her grieving family, were devastated. Her daughter Kelly arranged to have a very special tree planted in her memory, at Cosmeston — a place that Joanne loved to visit.
It did give us all some comfort to visit the tree, and we sent regular photographs of it to all her loving family members far away.
This morning, I had a very upsetting call from Sharon, the lovely lady who runs the parklands at Cosmeston Lakes.
Sharon helped us to arrange the tree, and planted it for us, during a ceremony attended by Joanne’s loved ones from all over the world.
Sharon was really upset to have to tell me that our very precious tree had been mindlessly vandalised, broken right down!!!!
I would like to meet the person who committed this mindless vandalism, and ask them why they did that and broke my heart????
I also want to make the point that the absolutely inappropriate placing of the aqua park in what was a lovely peaceful nature reserve has contributed to this damage.
And all that was done in the face of more than 7,000 people demonstrating against it, to the extent of forming a human chain all around the lake, to try to protect it. As usual, the Welsh Government and the Vale of Glamorgan council are showing complete disregard and contempt for public opinion.
