A day playing golf has opened up fresh possibilities for a group of students.
Pupils from Action for Children’s Headlands School in Penarth took part in an inclusive golf session at Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club, organised by Great Days Golf through its Inclusion Academy, which aims to make the golf accessible to everyone.
The students, who have a range of learning difficulties and additional needs, were guided by professional coaches and had the chance to try out the driving range and learn the basics of golf in a supportive setting.
Simon Pridham, managing director of Great Days Golf, said: "Through our strong partnership with Philtronics, one of our valued Great Days Golf partners, we were introduced to Action for Children.
"It has been a pleasure working closely with the teams at both Headlands School and Action for Children to deliver fully inclusive, free-of-charge golf coaching for learners with specific needs.
"Our aim is to grow this partnership in the years ahead, providing even more support, opportunities and guidance for those who will benefit most."
Headlands School is an independent special school that supports children and young people aged seven to 19 who have difficulty learning due to early trauma, complex emotional and social issues, autism, or attachment difficulties.
Laurie Ryall, national director for Action for Children in Wales, attended the session.
Ms Ryall said: "It was a joy to see the students so engaged and excited.
"I was genuinely impressed by how far they were hitting the ball – their confidence and energy were infectious.
"This is a fantastic example of how sport can be a powerful tool for inclusion and personal growth.
"The partnership between Headlands, Great Days Golf and Philtronics has given these young people a chance to try something new, build confidence and feel part of a wider community."
Great Days Golf’s Inclusion Academy continues to remove barriers in sport, helping young people discover new skills and build confidence in a welcoming environment.
