A PUB in Penarth is taking extra lengths to support the local rugby team after a devastating fire destroyed part of the club house.
A major fire tore through the historic Penarth Athletic Club clubhouse in the early hours of December 1, destroying more than a century of sporting history and forcing the multi-sport hub to close indefinitely.
Now, the Pilot in Penarth is showing its support for the rugby club by putting on events to raise money to help with the reconstruct.
On Tuesday, December 16, The Pilot will be hosting a crepe fundraiser.
Starting at 3.30pm the Pilot will be making and selling crepes with all the proceeds from the crepe sale going to Penarth RFC.
On top of that, patrons are encouraged to bring their own bakes and sell them, with all proceeds from their sales also going to the club.
Also, throughout December, £1 from every dessert sale at the Pilot will go to Penarth RFC.
Owners Serge Luceau and Francoise Commeureuc-Cherot said: “Anything we can do to help the club we will do.
“Some of our staff play for the club and we know how important it is to the community.
“Please come and support the club if you can.”

In the latest from the club, the Bears beat Lampeter in the Division 1 Cup on Sat December 6 in a thrilling 52-33 encounter!
The Long Room and kitchen have been cleaned and restored ready for use this evening.
Rugby teams are expected to use the space after training, offering an early sign that parts of the clubhouse can resume limited activity.
The club added that, in partnership with Vale of Glamorgan Council and insurers, the building has been assessed and made safe for the community, members and neighbours.
The fire broke out in the early hours of December 1, tearing through the main clubhouse and destroying more than a century of sporting memorabilia.
Crews from Penarth, Barry and Cardiff Central battled the flames for nearly three hours. No injuries were reported, and early indications suggest an electrical fault may have been the cause.
The Pilot will also be hosting a fundraising dinner in January.
