Emergency services were called to a structural collapse at a residential property in Penarth, prompting road closures and safety measures while the site was secured.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) confirmed it received a call at approximately 4.55pm, January 8 reporting a collapsed structure at a property on Plassey Street, Penarth. Crews and appliances from Penarth Fire Station attended the scene.

Firefighters found that an external wall of an end-terrace house had collapsed. Crews carried out a full assessment of the incident, using a thermal imaging camera to survey the structure and ensure there were no further immediate risks. Utilities to the property were also isolated as a precaution.

SWFRS said the incident was subsequently handed over to the local authority, with a stop message received at around 7.35pm, marking the conclusion of the fire service response.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council confirmed that the affected site had been made safe following the collapse.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Following the collapse of an exterior wall at a property on Windsor Lane in Penarth, the site has now been secured and made safe. The Council has since issued a Dangerous Structures Notice as our teams work with the owners regarding repairs.

“At this stage, no further information about the condition of the site is available until a structural survey has been carried out by the owners’ structural engineer.”

The council confirmed that responsibility for further investigation and repair now lies with the property owners, pending the results of the structural survey.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. It is not yet known what caused the collapse, and no timeframe has been given for when repair works may begin.

Residents in the area experienced disruption while emergency services were in attendance, and the council has advised that further updates will be provided once more information becomes available following the structural assessment.
