Welsh Labour leader Ken Skates has visited businesses in Penarth as part of his summer tour.
He spent time in Penarth alongside St Augustine’s councillor Ruba Sivagnanam, stopping at a variety of shops including Brød, LilyPad, Fauvette, Griffin Books, Windsor Fruit Stores, and The Windsor Restaurant and Tea Rooms.
Mr Skates said: "On a summer’s day, it’s incredible to see how bustling Penarth is, with people shopping and meeting friends and family.
"But businesses told me real challenges remain, despite the high footfall we see - business rates, energy bills, the cost of living squeezing the pockets of customers and business owners alike.
"The UK Labour Government is giving people a bit of breathing space from the cost-of-living by cutting electricity bills this winter, which will help homes and businesses.
"It’s only working together with our business community that we can find solutions to the challenges they face.
"It’s absolutely vital that we listen, we don’t lecture, and that we understand what people are telling us.

Ms Sivagnanam said: "I was glad to showcase Penarth’s thriving small business community to Ken on his tour of Wales.
"It’s incredibly important we listen to local businesses to hear directly from them what they’d like to see from government – from their local council, from the Welsh Government, and from the UK Government too – in order to collaboratively solve problems."
