AN ANGRY Penarth resident has hit out at entertainments promoters who are illegally sticking "ugly" posters up across the town.

Sheila Drew, of Paget Place, is at the end of her tether over the luminous posters which she says could put people off visiting the town.

She said: "In the last couple of months we've been inundated with the most awful scourge of people flyposting.

"I've taken off one poster in my road, but there are many left across the town. There are some on Windsor Road outside the Nationwide and a chemist, in Cogan by the leisure centre, and even on the Esplanade."

Mrs Drew added: "It seems everywhere there is a green cable box, there is a poster. We've never had it before. Nothing has escaped."

And she sent out a warning: "Anybody who comes to the Barrage and then travels up into Penarth will see these posters. It really looks awful. They are ugly."

She also complained about litter strewn in the area being unsightly.

"People go and get take-aways and then go and dump the rubbish all over the road. I've never seen it as bad as this," Mrs Drew said.

"They used to have people sweeping the streets, but you don't really see anyone outside of the town centre anymore. It's looking a state."

A spokesman for the Vale of Glamorgan Council said: "Fly-posting is a perennial problem which the authority is keen to address.

"There is no easy solution, but the council will, within current resources, remove offending material and take legal action against offenders where this is possible."
