AM Lorraine Barrett has thrown her support behind a United Nations Day of Peace initiative organised by a woman from Penarth to be held in Cardiff next week.

The "Peace Now!" event, to be held at the Temple of Peace on Edward VII Avenue in Cathays at 7pm next Wednesday, is part of the United Nations International Day of Peace.

Penarthian Jules Steinson, one of the event organisers, said: "Peace is so much more than an absence of war! Our focus is on stopping wars. We can become overwhelmed and feel powerless at the enormity of the task. We need to feel we can personally do something and it is inspiring to understand that peace is first and foremost an attitude of mind and a way of life that we can all achieve.

"It is the active, creative experience of living with others from a basis of true kindness, generosity, support and love."

Lorraine Barrett said: "I commend Julia and offer my support to the United Nations International Day of Peace. The event involves people from all walks of life including children. It is important that we all learn to live and work together in harmony."
