DANESCOURT YOUTH 3

COGAN CORO YOUTH 2

COGAN succumbed to only their second defeat in the South Wales West Division Youth League against a spirited Danescourt side.

The home team took the lead with their first shot of the game after a fine strike from 25 yards gave Cogan keeper James Curtin no chance.

Cogan searched for an instant equaliser and saw certain scoring opportunities by Anthony Johnston and Tom Massey acrobatically cleared off the line from Danescourt defenders.

Cogan were beginning to take the game to their opposition, with Jonny Sadler posing a threat on the left wing.

The visitors' hard work was repaid when central midfielder Kevin Spear scored a well-taken goal before half-time to level the scores.

The second half began with Danescourt making it 2-1 - instantly. Cogan were penalised for a foul on the edge of their box and a superbly executed free-kick glided into the top corner to give Danescourt the advantage.

Cogan were unlucky to find themselves behind as they enjoyed the majority of possession, but as play opened up, a Danescourt counter attack found the Cogan defence napping and the ball was chipped into the Cogan net to increase the lead.

Cogan looked bewildered at finding themselves trailing and a 30-minute onslaught on the Danescourt goal took place.

A Cogan fightback looked promising, but strikers Mike Curtin and Anthony Johnston were guilty of missing scoring opportunities that they would usually take with ease.

Cogan clawed a goal back after a late strike from captain Marc Bloxham but the Youth were unable to turn possession into goals.

The Youth remain in second position in the league and are through to the quarter final stage of the league cup.

Llantrisant FC visit Cogan Recreation Field on Sunday, kick-off 2pm.
