STANLEYTOWN 1

SULLY SPORTS 3

ON A HEAVY but even pitch, the hosts displayed a fighting attitude, needing the points to avoid relegation from the South Wales Senior League Division One.

Tackles were hard and Stanleytown went all out for a good start, taking a 20th minute lead, when, after a fine run into the box, a forward was felled and from the resultant spot kick Darren Hughes gave keeper Barrie Niblett little chance.

The darting runs of Drew Fahiya were starting to worry the home team, and they gave away a couple of desperate free kicks.

After 30 minutes, a direct free kick from the left was bent into the box by Spencer Lamb, and the swerve comprehensively beat the keeper into the corner for a deserved equaliser for Sully.

Drew Fahiya crashed a shot against the post as Sports pressed, but the break came with the teams level.

Sports were forced into changes which gave a debut to another teenager Lloyd Everett, who slotted into the middle with Richard Yarr coming in on the left side.

The introduction of Yarr saw the hosts at full-stretch and Sports again hit the post, but Sully took a deserved lead on the hour, when Drew Fahiya left defenders in his wake, evading several tackles and firing into the far corner - a super strike.

The hosts fought back and Sports were going to need another goal and that came when Bobby Brown"s fine pass beat the Stanleytown offside trap, which had repeatedly foxed Sports before.

The pass found Adam Govier in space, and with everyone expecting him to bring the ball down, he instead executed a first-time volley which flew into the net.

A delighted Sports saw the game out for the points, very hard-earned on the day over a side who looked far from relegation candidates.

Sports host Penydarren at Swanbridge on Saturday, and expect another physical game. Players to report at the ground at 1pm.

A SEVERELY depleted squad faced an in-form Linnets at Jenner Park in the Vale of Glamorgan Premier League, and Sports" ravaged squad had to call on injured players, including manager Lee Saunders who sadly limped off after half-time.

The remaining ten players fought hard, but on the large expanse of the park it proved too much, and although they replied with a good goal from Nicky Chung, it was too much to expect a comeback as the Linnets ended deserved winners.

The attitude of the Premier players is very disappointing, as opportunities exist to improve within the club and the first class coaching has been ignored.

The team face a difficult time, and it will do well to complete the season.

A great shame as the club will have a host of juniors coming through to play in the future.

The Premier team are at home to Cadoxton Imps this Saturday, and the club would appreciate that the team unites and appears for this game.
