AFTER 38 years of working at Penarth’s Fairfield Primary School, Allan Thomas will be retiring at the end of the summer term.

Mr Thomas has held the position of deputy head for 30 of those years and has been a figurehead of the school and instrumental in ensuring its success.

A school spokesman said: "Mr Thomas has committed his professional career to the school, always presenting a caring approach to the children, whilst ensuring they reach their full potential.

"It is quite appropriate that Mr Thomas has ended his career in the year that the school successfully completed an Estyn inspection, with his contribution being noted by the inspection team.

"They remarked that ‘the school is well regarded in the local community as a result of the good relations that have been promoted, particularly by the deputy headteacher’."

Mr Thomas has worked particularly hard to ensure that music is a strong element within the school, supporting the choir, and leading the orchestra at many concerts including Penarth Rotary Club’s annual event.

The spokesman added: "Fairfield School and its community would like to thank Mr Thomas for his many years of service, and wish him well for his retirement."
