ST CYRES School has launched its own radio station!

'Cyres Sound' features live shows throughout the school day and music continuing to play after school hours.

The station went live on air at 7am on Monday, September 19, and braodcasts 24-hours-a-day.

There are breakfast, lunchtime and hometime shows, with pre-recorded shows played out in the evenings.

Head of the faculty of performing arts, Rebecca Fowler Thomas said: "Not only will the radio station act as a form of entertainment, but it will be a great way for all departments to get involved by incorporating it into their lessons.

"It will also produce educational programmes which students can listen to at home.

"School concerts, interviews with pupils, interviews with teachers and school news are also planned to be broadcast, acting as a great form of communication for the community."

The idea originated from music teacher Richard Hopkin, who has always had a passion for radio and before beginning his teaching career in St Cyres two years ago, was the breakfast show producer for Real Radio Wales.

Mr Hopkin said: "It is such a pleasure to be able to pass on my knowledge and experience.

"The response has been overwhelming; the pupils have shown real enthusiasm and commitment. I can't wait to hear their hard work pay off!"

Cyres Sound will be available to listen to via the school website www.stcyres.org
