I AM writing in response to the letter from Andrew Bowdler about construction work at Bryneithin in the Penarth Times June 2.
Regarding Mr Bowdler’s ‘assumption’ that the councillors named in his letter had voted for the new development at Bryneithin, may I put him right. Cllr Chris Franks and I are on the committee and voted against the proposed development at Bryneithin.
Further, having listened to the real concerns of St Andrews School governors, we supported the proposal to include a condition that, prior to development starting, there should be an extra condition in the approval, agreeing times of working etc. so as not to interfere with the start and finish times of the school day.
For clarity we did not support the development but attempted to ensure that there were adequate conditions to manage any scheme. Unfortunately, as was evident, work involving heavy machinery was under way during the start of the school day.
The Vale council was informed and no further work occurred. We trust that there will not be a repeat of this situation.
The site access is adjacent to the entrance to the school and control of this area is of vital concern to protect pupils, parents and the staff.
Val Hartrey
Councillor
