PENARTH assembly member Vaughan Gething paid a visit to Penarth’s Royal Mail sorting office this week.

He passed on his best Christmas wishes and encouragement to the postal workers at the Albert Road office at their busiest time of year.

Mr Gething was shown round the sorting office by office manager Mark Parry and was introduced to postal workers who are working hard to sort and deliver the area’s share of the estimated total Wales postbag of more than 200 million items.

Mr Gething said: "It was great to meet the hardworking Royal Mail postmen and women at Penarth sorting office and to see first-hand just how much effort they put into delivering the Christmas post."

"It was good to see how the post is sorted and the amount of mail that is handled here in Penarth.

"At this time of year the Penarth office can see anything up to an extra 50,000 items being handled, which puts a lot of pressure on staff who sort the mail and then have to go out to deliver it.

"Posties do such an important job at this time of year and I would like to thank them for their efforts and wish them all the best over the festive period."
