MORE than £60,000 is being spent on giving a Penarth pub's beer garden a makeover in time for Mother's Day weekend.

The Railway Hotel on Plymouth Road is spending £65,000 refurbishing the beer garden having renovated the inside of the pub in March last year.

The work will take the number of seats in the beer garden from 66 to almost 100 by the time it is ready on Friday, March 9.

Manager Tom Galloway said: “It’s going to look absolutely brilliant.

"There will be two heated and covered booths that are undoubtedly going to be the first to be occupied. It will be really colourful with the new furniture, new plants, foliage, and flooring.”

Mr Galloway has said that if the sun shines that weekend, he’s giving all mums a free glass of fizz in the garden until 2pm on Mothering Sunday.

The pub will be showing the Liverpool v Manchester United football match from 12.30pm on Saturday, March 10 and local band “The Snorklers” will be playing in the evening before the Wales vs Italy Six Nations game is shown on the Sunday.

"Everyone loves a beer garden, and we might not have the weather all year round but with heating and a bit of cover, it’s fresh air all the way now” added Mr Galloway.

“We’re not blessed with beer gardens in Penarth so it’s good we can do our bit to keep up the attraction of enjoying a pint in the garden."

Customers can book or just turn up on Sunday for Mothers Day and the Six Nations.
