FIRST Division champions Sully Sports travelled to the Rhymney Valley for their final  South Wales Senior Soccer League game, with the Pontlottyn pitch in decent condition.
Sports travelled with half the side unavailable after their hectic campaign of 14 games in 30 days. Coach Mike Fowler donned the gloves, there was a welcome return for Nigel Underdown and Michael Osbourne and Connor McInery partnered Gareth Hemmens up front.
The early play saw Sports take the initiative, with McInery going close. Fochriw, in a rare attack, were unlucky when a lob beat stranded 'keeper Fowler but bounced off the crossbar to safety.
Sports pressed again and, from a corner, Garon Davies headed on for Ed Jones to nod past the 'keeper. Unlucky Nigel Underdown had to be helped off with a leg injury to be replaced by Kyle Lewis who went up front.
In the second half, Fowler was full length to divert a shot for a corner but Sports always looked in command. After a few chances, Sports struck again in the last 10 minutes to seal the points when a fine lay off from Garon Davies saw Aiden Lewis drive the ball home.
Champions for the second successive year, Sports, with their fourth league title, deserved the three points to end a very hard league season They now face the 'play off winner takes all' game against local rivals Rhoose. The game will not be played for three weeks - a strange outcome for a Sports team that has had to endure a game virtually every other day to complete their season. The likely date for the play off is Saturday, May 25, at Bryntirion.
The Seconds were home to leaders Pro Copy and lost 4-1. They finish with a visit to the BSC to face "The Borough."
