PENARTH Petanque Club's Jean-Yves Robic was joined by Phil Bradshaw and Ian Bailey (Monkstone Inn) to win the Stuart Clarke Cup - the opening event of the Welsh Petanque Association season.
The triples competition was hosted by the Wenvoe club, and the winning team, RBB, emerged with a 100 per cent record from their six games.
In second spot were Gemma Foster and Jake Caston (Wheatsheaf) and Bob Pugh (Wenvoe), while there were special congratulations to the all-Penarth team of Valerie and Robert Falconer and John Thorn, who finished third after beating some extremely experienced teams.
Organisers were pleased to see some new faces taking part in the competition, especially a team from Monmouth.
Following Sunday's national Veterans’ Championship at Wenvoe, the winners will represent Wales at the European Veterans’ Championship in Lulelå, Sweden, between June 27-28.
