THE under 11 Golds travelled to Radyr knowing they faced strong opposition.
There was some good bowling but some very good Radyr batting which took the home side to a strong pairs total of 292. The pick of the Penarth bowlers was Joe Duffy with two wickets in his two offers.
The Penarth batsmen went about their task with flair and determination. Cross and Skone set the tone with a solid 25 partnership to start. Golds debutant Elys Johnson hit two to the boundary to joint top score whilst Lewis Ingram got in on the act with a leg side 6. That left Crimp the younger and the younger Mulcahy to secure a 20 run margin of victory by adding a further 27 runs and make it two wins out of two.
The U13 Golds Cardiff A played at the Recreation Ground on 20th May and whilst bowling well (Especially Rhys McGowan) Cardiff scored a challenging score of 124 -4. Penarth’s reply kept pace all the way paved by Gab Howard (30 retired) Greg Cross 20 and Matt Frost 16 not out. The pace bowlers of Cardiff kept the game to a last gasp but unfortunately the seasiders lost by 2 runs.
Having tried to play their U13 ECB Cup match twice in half term and being beaten by the rain, the Golds finally doubled up with their league game against Lisvane CC on June 3. Lisvane score 96 off their 20 overs. Good bowling again from Ethan Mulcahy who took the prize wicket of Lisvane star batsman. Rhys McGowan bowled a miserly spell and Jayden Goodwin spun the Lisvane batsmen in to a trance. In reply Matt Frost retired with 30 not out, and Jayden Goodwin eased the Penarth side home with 33 not out.
